High School

AESA's High School is composed of students in grades nine through twelve. As a college preparatory school, we provide our students with in-depth study, challenging courses, and opportunities to develop creative and critical thinking skills.  Our goal is that all of our AESA Graduates have the opportunity to attend the college of their choice.

Our courses are rigorous and taught at the Honors level or higher. However, our small-by-design model, allows students to receive needed attention and support from their teachers that other schools simply cannot provide.  We have a high level of students who graduate with top percentage grade point averages and receive merit-based scholarships. We offer advanced course selections for motivated students, including dual credit classes, to help them build a distinguished diploma and an impressive transcript.

Student life at the high school is integral to our culture.  We provide numerous opportunities for students to participate and lead in academic activities, clubs, organizations, and social engagements exclusive to the high school.  Our capstone high school activity is the yearly retreat after final exams, as communication and connection are a cornerstone of our school.

High School Academics

AESA's high school is a comprehensive 4-year college preparatory program that also actively supports eligible students who are competing or participating in activities at the state or national level. The AESA diploma requires a minimum of 26 credits for graduation and is designed to provide students with an advanced transcript, making them eligible to apply to programs and universities of their choosing.

Dual Credit Courses

The National Alliance for Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships defines dual-credit courses as “the opportunity for high school students to take college credit-bearing courses taught by college-approved high school teachers.”

For an educational institution to offer a dual-credit program, it must be approved by a university. Additionally, high school teachers supervising students in these programs must also be university-approved. AESA Prep Academy has informal partnerships with world-class programs including The University of Texas at Austin and the University of California at Berkeley, in addition to local programs including Austin Community College. AESA will consider requests from students to take dual credits from other distinguished universities. With AESA’s small student-teacher ratio, especially in dual-credit courses, students receive high-quality and effective support.

Dual credits fulfill high school and university credits, appearing on both transcripts. We recommend Juniors and Seniors take at least one dual-credit course, with AESA students encouraged to take multiple if possible.

AESA does not offer Advanced Placement classes but considers our regular classes at the AP level or higher. Dual-credit courses offer numerous advantages over AP courses, including standing out in admissions, experiencing college-level coursework, and saving time and money.
