Head of School Barbara Garza discusses why AESA Prep Academy offers students a better way to learn.
AESA Prep Academy is an elite college prep school, and one of the most innovative and progressive schools in the Austin area.
Thursday the 17th was filled with excitement as we headed to St. Edward's University for our first annual AESA Spelling Bee! Chris Garcia, mother of our very own Jose Garcia, gave us a thirty minute tour of the campus and then took us to lunch at the main cafeteria. After a delicious meal, we all went upstairs to one of the main ballrooms for our AESA Spelling Bee where Mrs. Garcia then gave all of our students St. Edward's backpacks, t-shirts and water bottles!
Mr. Jose Garcia was the official pronouncer and Erin Brack, Kathleen Cuckler and Amy Johnson were our official judges. The middle school went first, and Maya Misra came out on top taking first place, with Loli Perim taking second place. In third place was Isabella Pitts, and fourth place was taken by Allanah Ahr. Congratulations to our middle schoolers!
After that, our high school competitors took the stage. To win first place at the high school level, a student had to spell a championship word in addition to winning the final round. It was a very exciting event, and Sierra Stapper came up with the first place win after going four rounds with second place winner Jay Misra. Noah Steinle took third place and Mark Twomey and Logan Johnson both received an Honorable Mention for placing fourth. Congratulations again to all of our student competitors!
We would like to thank our parent volunteer drivers Gail Brown, Sandlin Niccum, and Cindy Tanner.
Thank you also to the AESA teachers who attended this trip: Erin O'Meara, Tonya Barlow, Kathleen Cuckler, Erin Brack, Caro Palmatier, Amy Johnson, and Jose Garcia
It was a great first Spelling Bee, and we look forward to many more in the coming years here at AESA.
